Mullerthal Touring - Drive & Hike Tour

Scheidgen – Consdorf – Konsdrefer Millen – Müllerthal – Consdorf - Scheidgen

Departure: Scheidgen

On this tour, you will explore great rock formations and caves! In Scheidgen, leave the car next to the church. Follow the footpath "Auto-Pédestre" (blue triangle on a white background) and you will walk past the rock formations of Dachselee and Härgottskapp. When you leave the forest, you turn back right to the parking area. Walking distance: 3 km; Time: 50 min. You then drive through Consdorf towards Mullerthal. Leave your car at the parking lot of Consdorfer Millen, cross the road and turn left into the forest. On Mullerthal Trail, you will come to Kuelscheier and pass the narrow and dark rock passages of Rittergang and Déiwepëtz. Not suitable for claustrophobic people; you need a flashlight! At the pond, you turn left and go back straight ahead to the car. Walking distance: 3,5 km. Time: 75 min. You continue towards Mullerthal and turn right at the bridge Breidweiler-Pont (by coach, you should turn right the next road after Consdorfer Millen, direction Mullerthal). After 300 m, you leave the car in the parking lot and walk on the forest path to the cascade of Schiessentumpel. Walking distance from the car and back: 1 km. In the village of Mullerthal, you can stop at the Touristcenter Heringer Millen, where you can borrow hiking equipment for free. Drive back to Scheidgen by Consdorf.

Rock formation "Kuelscheier"

The Kuelscheier is a rock group with a special attraction in its middle: A dark, narrow rock tunnel about 100 meters long, which is closed at the top. It was created when sandstone blocks separated by clefts along the rock face. A source below the rocks marks the transition from the permeable sandstone to the underlying less permeable, clayey marls.

The rock passage is in places so narrow that only "one-way traffic" is possible. A flashlight is necessary to explore the rock tunnel through which a path passes.

The name "Kuelscheier" probably developed from the fact that charcoal from the coal mines in the surrounding area was temporarily stored in the clefts of the rock group. The columns served as a kind of barn and thus got the name "Kuelscheier", ie "coal barn".

The Kuelscheier is located directly on Route 2 of the Mullerthal Trail. It can also be hiked via the local hiking trail C2.

Travertine source Kallektuffquell

At the Travertine source situated in the valley of the Ernz Noire crystal-clear calcareous water flows over a rock formation into a basin. The colors of the water and the rock as well as the variety of moss are impressive.

This wonderful place is accessible by the local hiking trail W7 (10.2 km) with starts at Heringer Millen or by Route 3 of the Mullerthal Trail. Before you reach the source, you walk over a 600 m long wooden bridge, which also leads along the river and crosses it several times.
